Judith Watson is a fully qualified holistic practitioner. After over 20 years' teaching in Teesside she had to take medical retirement following a road accident, and decided to follow her life-long interest in natural health care. She graduated with Distinction from the British School of Reflexology, after a yearlong professional course, being taught by Anna-Louise Haigh, who subsequently introduced her to Daoyin Tao®. She has also completed post-graduate qualifications in Aromatherapy and Nutrition.
In 2005 she qualified in The Bowen Technique, and is finding this to be very effective in a wide range of conditions. She studied with the European College of Bowen Studies, (Now known as College of Bowen Studies) and is committed to following additional post-graduate courses to extend her knowledge.
Post graduate training has focussed on the prevention and treatment of sports injuries, use of Bowen with children and babies, and more in-depth studies of anatomy and physiology, with detailed analysis of body systems. She has also studied Fascia Bowen, which is a type of very gentle Bowen that is particularly effective if used on children who have a range of problems, including autism and cerebral palsy, and anyone in a fragile condition. A certificate in using Hopi Ear candles, either as a stand-alone treatment or with an accompanying massage, has been added to her repertoire. She has successfully completed a course in Kinesiology, enabling her to advise on and prescribe nutritional supplements, and test for food intolerances. In order to advance her massage skills, she has also qualified in Thermal Stone Massage and Chinese Foot Massage.
Most recently she qualified in McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR) which is a fabulous therapy that can help many unresolved issues. Scars can be causing many problems well away from the scar site without you realising – C-section scars in particular can cause huge amounts of pain that can last for many years – permanently, in fact if they aren’t treated. Even one short treatment can get rid of pain, or start to release it – it is a therapy Judith would recommend to everyone who has had trauma or surgery at any time in their life. It doesn’t even have to be a visible scar – Judith herself found relief from invisible scarring from a head injury sustained over 20 years ago. It is also an excellent treatment for plantar fasciitis, and often provides instant relief.
Norman Ogden is a fully qualified Bowen Technique practitioner. He has been interested in Complementary therapies for many years, and became involved with fundraising for the Holistic Cancer Care Project at James Cook Memorial Hospital. This intensified his interest in holistic treatments and he decided the time was right to train as a practitioner; The Bowen Technique seemed an ideal choice. He was a teacher for over 25 years before being granted medical retirement 18 years ago, after which he worked in a voluntary capacity advising teachers with health problems during retirement applications.
Post graduate training has focussed on the prevention and treatment of sports injuries, and more in-depth studies of anatomy and physiology, with detailed analysis of body systems.
Judith and Norman both trained with the European College of Bowen Studies, (now the College of Bowen Studies) and are fully insured. They are both members of the Bowen Therapists European Register (BTER), which ensures that they are fully qualified, have qualifications in Anatomy and Physiology and First Aid, and are committed to at least 2 days of post-graduate professional development each year.
Alongside Smart Therapies they also have a small business selling natural, vegan handmade skincare products, Naturally Smart Skincare.
